Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of dark personality triad and real and mediated social interactions on social media addiction and academic performance of university students.

Methods: A total of 247 university students studying during the summer term of 2019 were asked to respond on the Short Dark Triad Scale, Social Interaction Scale, and Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale.

Results: The results of this study revealed a strong direct positive path from the mediated social interaction to social media addiction (β=0.53) (p<0.01). Moreover, it partially mediated the indirect path from psychopathy to social media addiction. The narcissistic personality directly enhanced student’s academic performance and did not affect social interaction or social media addiction. In summary, excessive mediated social interaction might be the step before social media addiction, whereas social media addiction negatively affected student’s academic performance. Furthermore, psychopathic personality has a tendency toward social media addiction, whereas narcissistic personality shows improved academic performance.

The study investigated the influence of family violence and age on the manifestation of depressive symptoms among women. The sample for the study comprised 200 married women (100 battered and 100 non-battered) who were selected from Onitsha North Local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria. Marital Conflict Behavior Checklist (MCBC) was used to serve as an indicator of conflict behaviors spouses engaged in, during conflicts. The Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depressive Scale (CESD) was used to measure the levels of depressive symptoms manifested by the participants. Data were analyzed using 2×2 Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results showed that there was significant difference, between battered and nonbattered women on the report of depression, F (1,196)=16. 06, p<.01. There was a statistically significant age difference in the manifestation of depression F(I,196) =37.49, p<.O1. Young battered women reported higher depression than old battered women. There was interaction effect between battering and depression. The finding suggest that depression was as a result of battering. Correlation was significant at r=p<. O1. The findings were discussed, implications and limitations highlighted and recommendations were made.

Family communication is important to maintain family relationships and family cohesion as well as wellbeing. Family cohesion, which refers to the extent of the connectedness and solidarity among members in a family, is an important determinant of family functioning. To enhance family cohesion, the “familybased behavioral intervention” was developed with a series of intervention programs in polygamous family with low family cohesion. This intervention, based on both the social ecological model and family-based behavioral model, provided a platform for families to learn, communicate and interact with each other. Objectives of the intervention included the modification of family communication behaviors and cohesion levels through the use of group dynamics strategies. This pre/post intervention without control group design included two family groups, a total of 14 siblings (6 monogamous and 8 polygamous families) used for pre-intervention assessment via semi structured interview. The results of the baseline study indicated that the experience of polygamous households was underlined with negative experiences such as poor family communication and cohesion, conflict, and a sense of deprivation. To alleviate the formulated problems above the 4-month intervention was planned and implemented. The intervention included family group education, social and behavioral group activities and tasks, and social support, embodied by a series of family-based activities, family meeting, coffee ceremony, cultural and religious practices etc. The follow-up (three months after the programs) assessment were conducted in the intervention group (selected polygamous family) to evaluate the impact of the intervention programs on family communication and cohesion. Post intervention assessment outcomes revealed that some improvement on family communication and cohesion has observed. Recommendations are forwarded.
