This article analyzes, from the perspective of textual criticism, two stories by the Campeche writer Santiago Sierra (1850-1880): “Flor de fuego” and “Flor del dolor,” which are part of the series that he published under the title “Flores.” This work is intended to contribute to the construction of the genetic history of these texts, through the exposition and interpretation of the significant author variants that exist between the first version, which appeared in the Veracruz newspaper Violetas, in 1869, and the second and last version published in the pages of El Domingo, between 1871 and 1872. The comparison of the two versions of these “Flores” reveals interesting variants that allow us to appreciate the transition in his aesthetic proposal from the assimilation of the doctrine of Allan Kardec. The study shows the process of transformation from the occultist substrate to the spiritualist, as the foundation of the fantastic or the supernatural in the stories.

This paper addresses how Luis Felipe Fabre, in his novel Decla­ración de las canciones oscuras (Sexto Piso, 2019), represents Juan de Yepes Álvarez as a writer that was “suspicious of the language.” In order to achieve this, both the documentation process supporting the novel as well as the in-depth analysis of the verses found in Noche oscura del alma —used by Fabre to write his poetic prose passages and fictional cutting which hold up the text: segments in which the narrator or characters denounce expressive impossibility, as happened to San Juan—are revised. Based on the constants of impossibility, ineffability, and silence as analytic guides, the present work analyzes several scenes of the novel, and in the final segment this paper concludes that the “mistrusting of language”—something that Fabre reclaims and resignifies from De la Cruz—is a symptom of how literature offers resis­tance to the lies and terror of our current contexts, even though Fabre in this work is talking about historical events as far away in time and as in place.

This article addresses the way in which Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora, through the manuscript “Descripción de la Bahía de Santa María de Galve” (1693), shows a series of textual relationships with discursive forms such as Relaciones Geográficas, with other texts mentioned in the manuscript (La Florida by Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, Naufragios by Al­var Núñez Cabeza de Vaca and Historia de la fundación y discurso de la provincia de Santiago de México de la orden de Predicadores by Agustín Dávila Padilla), and with the rest of the work of the Mexican polygraph. Through these intertextualities, we consider that the “Descripción de la Bahía de Santa María de Galve” is shown as a text that reflects, on the one hand, Sigüenza and Góngora’s mastery of the colonial archive and, on the other hand, the maturity and assimilation of the cultural practices that he cultivated and put at the service of the aforementioned exploratory project at the end of the 17th century.

La “Descripción de la Bahía de Santa María de Galve” (1693) de Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora y la puesta en escena del archivo colonial

Based on the contributions of Peruvian theorist and critic Anto­nio Cornejo Polar on narrative heterogeneity, this paper proposes an inter­pretation of Valeria Luiselli’s most recent novel, Desierto sonoro (2019). In this text I postulate that, without undermining the explicit sources which the novel alludes to and recovers, it is possible to link it to a deeply rooted narrative tradition in Latin America: that which represents sociocultural otherness. The tensions between the referent (the Chiricahua tribes of the 19th century and the children who cross the border into the United States in the 21st century) and the narrative perspectives that present the events involve different displacements (of characters, knowledge, diegetic levels, and narrative points of view) oriented to the representation of a harmonious encounter between two opposing sociocultural groups.

El presente trabajo es una aproximación al teatro guadalupano, como origen y espacio de representación. Actualmente tenemos numerosos testimonios sobre teatro con tema del mito de las apariciones en el Tepeyac, pero su presencia en los teatros públicos establecidos y dominados por los estamentos que ejercían el poder no ha sido comprobada, por lo que surge la necesaria pregunta sobre cuál era el objetivo y el público que miraba estas obras. En el presente trabajo el lector encontrará una solución plausible a esta interrogante.

El pensa miento y prácticas decoloniales presentes en el mundo contemporáneo, contribuyen directa y significativamente en la larga lucha de los pueblos originarios de América por su liberación del orden colonial y la recuperación de sus culturas y territorios ancestrales. Entre las muchas facetas de esta lucha en América Latina se encuentran los movimientos de revitalización cultural, con sus expresiones en el arte como uno de sus principales componentes. En este artículo se analizan brevemente los contextos teóricos, históricos e ideológicos de este movimiento decolonial, tomando como caso la emergencia de una literatura maya, cuyo espíritu está orientado a transgredir el canon literario hegemónico.

A partir de un aspecto que apenas ha sido tratado por la crítica especializada, la figura del público receptor, se considera pertinente revisitar la labor creativa y cultural de los principales miembros de los Contemporáneos en México. En este primer acercamiento, se pone el foco en la primera mitad de losaños veinte y en algunos textos concretos de Gorostiza, Novo, Torres Bodet, Owen y Villaurrutia, a fin de cuestionar y reconsiderar la convicción comúnmente aceptada en torno a la deliberada ahistoricidad que caracterizó a todo el grupo. Por ende, se resalta su conciencia de la realidad sociocultural del país al tiempo que se conecta su labor con la responsabilidad histórica que debió asumir la generación de artistas de 1921. Igualmente, se concede especial atención a un hito cultural importante que no suele ser tenido en cuenta cuando se estudia su obra y que tiene lugar entre los años veinte y treinta: el tránsito de una cultura oral a otra letrada. En consonancia con lo anterior, se conecta su propuesta artística de aquellos años con algunas de las figuras emblemáticas de la cultura popular y con el proceso de rehabilitación del canto tradicional en México. El propósito último consistiría en plantear la posibilidad de que los Contemporáneos habrían intentado crear una poesía de la Revolución antes de concebir una literatura revolucionaria, ya a partir de 1926.
