The ability to internationalize has become a competitive necessity for many firms, and one important for survival and growth in the era of globalization. At the same time, digitalization is transforming the locus of entrepreneurial opportunities and entrepreneurial practices, thus offering new perspectives on internationalization. Internationalization requires marketing capability as well as market orientation. However, there is a gap in the literature exploring the interplay of digitalization, market orientation and marketing capability in the internationalization process. The objective of the present study is to improve our understanding of (1) the impact of market orientation, marketing capability and digitalization on firm performance among small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and (2) the differences in this impact between internationalized SMEs and SMEs operating only in domestic markets. The data were gathered from 101 Finnish SMEs in the wood-product industry, and analyzed with AMOS using path analysis. The results show that marketing capability mediates the effect of market orientation on firm performance. For internationalized firms, market orientation and marketing capability are crucial to their success in foreign markets. However, digitalization has no effect on firm performance with internationalized firms. With other firms, the effect is direct and significant.

Firm Performance among Internationalized SMEs: The Interplay of Market Orientation, Marketing Capability and Digitalization

In this study, we present a strategic change theoretical model and empirically validate it in the context of inter-governmental organizations. We followed a survey methodology approach and tested our model hypotheses using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Traditional strategic management models were created primarily with the private sector in mind. Therefore, validation of the model constructs for their appropriateness to the present construct is essential, especially that these types of organizations, such as those of the United Nations agencies, face major challenges when it comes to change. We found significant re-groupings of items, leading to the necessity to reformulate the constructs, as the context of our study is significantly different. We found that institutional pressures have a significant influence on strategic change and were mediated by strategic formulation. We also found that strategic pressures did not have any influence on strategic intent. Our research theoretical model and results provide many insights to future research directions and inter-governmental organizational practitioners who are engaged in change management.

Empirical Analysis of Strategic Management in Inter-Governmental Organization

The transformation and upgrading of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) need to align with global industrial development trends and can further assist SMEs in sustainable operation. In recent years, major industrial countries, such as Germany, China, and the United States, have promoted policies like Industry 4.0 or advanced manufacturing as part of their national manufacturing transformation strategies. In contrast, how SMEs follow these global industrial development trends and effectively apply new technologies hinges on internal knowledge management and organizational learning. To achieve the benefits of new technology implementation, enterprises must establish an effective knowledge management and organizational learning mechanism and promotion practices. The Taiwanese government has also adopted Industry 4.0 as an essential tool for assisting the transformation and upgrading of SMEs. Therefore, this study surveyed 129 SMEs in the Taiwanese metal industry, using a one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and simple regression analysis to explore the impact of the internal promotion of knowledge management and organizational learning on the introduction of Industry 4.0 and the enhancement in competitiveness. The results of this study indicate that the promotion of knowledge management and organizational learning contributes to the effective adoption of Industry 4.0 and the enhancement in competitiveness, showing significant correlations between these factors. Thus, the findings can serve as a reference for other partner countries.

The Impact of Knowledge Management and Organizational Learning Promotion in Small and Medium Enterprises on the Implementation of Industry 4.0 and Competitiveness

This study investigates the relationship between green intellectual capital and corporate environmental performance, with a specific focus on the moderating role of environmental management accounting. Data were collected from a sample of 298 employees working in the Egyptian industrial sector and analyzed using smart partial least squares (SmartPLS) software. The empirical results revealed a statistically positive and significant impact of all green intellectual capital components on corporate environmental performance, indicating that green intellectual capital is a critical determinant in enhancing environmental performance. Further, the analysis reveals that environmental management accounting functions as a significant moderator in the relationship between green intellectual capital and corporate environmental performance. The model explains 80.2% of the variance in corporate environmental performance, providing strong empirical support for this study’s hypotheses. These findings have important practical implications for companies working in the Egyptian context. They can help in guiding the development of corporate policies and strategies that improve environmental performance. This research also makes a significant contribution to the literature by being one of the first to study the moderating role of environmental management accounting practices in an emerging market like Egypt, as most early studies have concentrated on the direct relationship between green intellectual capital, environmental management accounting, and corporate environmental performance. This helps in better understanding of these concepts and how they interact.

Green Intellectual Capital and Corporate Environmental Performance: Does Environmental Management Accounting Matter?

The current sustainability concerns affect visitors’ behavior and competitiveness of destinations. For these reasons, the destinations need sustainable and innovative branding to address sustainability concerns, stand out in a competitive market, meet changing visitor preferences, and ensure long-term competitiveness in a dynamic global environment. In this regard, identifying and understanding challenges, opportunities, and innovative strategies are critically important. An integrative literature review method was employed using the Scopus database. The study identified major challenges, such as growing environmental concerns, the dynamic advancement of new technologies and artificial intelligence, health and safety concerns, diversity and inclusion, economic and geopolitical uncertainties, local community engagement, and competitive markets. Conversely, responsible tourism, the digital landscape, wellness and health, cultural festivals and events, accessibility and inclusivity, creative industries, and authenticity have been identified as future tourism branding opportunities. Based on the literature insights, the paper provides readers with essential information and advances the field of tourism and hospitality as it identifies challenges, opportunities, and innovative branding strategies in the industry. Furthermore, this work contributes to existing literature and proposes future research agendas.

Building a Sustainable Future: Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovative Strategies for Destination Branding in Tourism

This article examines the effects of integrating ChatGPT, a generative language model developed by OpenAI, into educational and training contexts in higher education. The research takes as its conceptual framework models of technology acceptance and questions the relevance of these models to the acceptance and adoption of ChatGPT. A qualitative study carried out with teachers from various higher education establishments in France enables us to propose a model adapted to the specific features of generative AI. The ethical dimension and the controllability of the tools by users, made possible by a progressive training program, are two constructions that are essential to a proper understanding of whether or not these new tools are adopted. Additionally, this research contributes to the growing discourse on how generative AI innovations can be leveraged to enhance digital transformation in the academic sector, with a particular focus on business schools’ stakeholders and strategies. Finally, the contributions and prospects for future research are discussed.

Unleashing ChatGPT: Redefining Technology Acceptance and Digital Transformation in Higher Education

This study investigates the moderating effects of teamwork and employee wellbeing policies on the relationship between workplace stress and burnout within the Australian Public Service (APS). Using data from a large-scale cross-sectional survey conducted in 2022, we examine how both strong team support and organizational wellbeing policies buffer the negative impacts of increased work stress on burnout likelihood. The findings indicate that high levels of both teamwork and wellbeing significantly reduce the likelihood of burnout in high-stress environments. Conversely, the absence of either or both factors tends to relatively exacerbate burnout risk. In addition, employee age is found to negatively correlate with burnout, while role seniority is associated with higher burnout likelihood. Gender differences suggest female employees report slightly higher burnout rates. The results provide valuable insights into organizational strategies for reducing burnout likelihood. In a practical sense they highlight the importance of fostering supportive team environments while also implementing comprehensive wellbeing initiatives in high-stress work environments.

Stress, Teamwork, and Wellbeing Policies: A Synergistic Approach to Reducing Burnout in Public Sector Organizations

The hospitality industry is a major segment of tourism, which is, in turn, a main economic contributor for many destinations. Sustainable tourism practices are promoted worldwide by international organizations like the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) to assist different countries. Various frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), and environmental indices and management systems such as ISO 14001 are common assessment tools for environmental sustainability. This research reviews the relevance of incorporating environmental and socio-economic factors within hotel operations that may lead to improved transparency and operational effectiveness while guaranteeing adherence to sustainability within the hotel business. Accordingly, a systematic review of environmental sustainability assessments in hotels was carried out. A comprehensive analysis of research articles published between January 2000 and January 2023 by reputed databases ranging from Google Scholar, Scopus, and others, were used to conduct the literature review. A total of 38 papers were examined adhering to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) standards, and it is worth noting that a significant increase in interest emerged in 2018, especially in Europe and Asia. The review reiterated the relevance and need to use relevant assessment methods and tools that aid in implementing sustainable development strategies to promote tourism-dependent economies, which can serve as a guiding note for varied tourism destinations. It additionally provides valuable knowledge for future directions, whilst improving research methods and incorporating innovative technologies. These advancements are essential as they may guide policy decisions to protect the environment within the hospitality industry.

Environmental Sustainability in Hotels: A Review of the Relevance and Contributions of Assessment Tools and Techniques

Corporations are increasingly looking beyond inter-company collaborations to multidimensional collaborative activities between departments and organizational members within the company to strengthen innovative market competitiveness. High-tech corporations, specifically, are adopting collaborative learning approaches to promote work capability among engineers from the perspective of developing new technologies and increasing productivity. This study aimed to empirically verify the effect of the service quality of collaborative learning programs on the innovative work behavior of engineers in high-tech companies. Job autonomy, self-efficacy, and learning transfer were set as mediating variables and their effects on innovative work behavior were analyzed. The sample comprised 298 high-tech engineers in South Korea. Collaborative learning service quality was found to have a direct positive effect on job autonomy, self-efficacy, and learning transfer. However, job autonomy and self-efficacy did not influence innovative work behavior through learning transfer. On the other hand, collaborative learning quality had a positive effect on innovative work behavior through learning transfer. Thus, improving the service quality of collaborative learning programs in high-tech corporations can enhance learning transfer within the organization, leading to innovative business outcomes. Moreover, to maximize the effectiveness of collaborative learning, the service quality of learning programs can be improved by prioritizing learning transfer rather than job autonomy or self-efficacy.

The Effect of Collaborative Learning Service Quality on the Innovative Work Behavior of High-Tech Engineers

Today, effective project management goes beyond technical skills, incorporating an emotional dimension that plays a crucial role in the success and dynamics of teams. Emotional intelligence (EI), which refers to the ability to control emotions—both one’s own and those of others—has become essential for good performance in work environments, often surpassing technical skills. This study aims to explore the relationship between managers’ emotional intelligence and decision-making in the context of project management. This research was based on an extensive literature review, followed by multiple interviews with project managers. Using semi-structured interviews, it was possible to identify how EI positively influences decision-making and project success. Managers with high levels of EI are more effective in decision-making, communication, conflict resolution, and leadership, resulting in more cohesive and productive teams. EI is a critical factor for success in project management in companies with the same characteristics as this one, providing a collaborative and effective working environment. The results might clearly assess the current state of the relationship between EI in the context of project management and consequent decisions leading to the project’s success.
