Trends in Microbiology is a multidisciplinary forum that discusses various aspects of microbiology, ranging from cell biology and immunology to genetics and evolution, covering virology, bacteriology, protozoology, and mycology. Microbiology is one of the fastest-growing disciplines today, and the life sciences have also benefited from recent technological advancements. The relative ease and speed of complete sequencing of small genomes have had a significant impact across all fields of prokaryotes, from pathogens to extremophiles, and are driving new developments in areas such as drug, vaccine, and industrial enzyme research. Recent international developments have also rekindled interest in microbiology. The journal features a vibrant mix of reviews, communications, and commentaries. Most articles are commissioned and undergo peer review, providing an authoritative foundation for teaching and understanding developments in the field. The focus is on molecular microbiology and virology, including topics such as genomics, host-pathogen interactions in plants and animals, host immune responses, the evolution of virulence determinants, cell cycle and differentiation, plant and animal symbiosis, environmental microbiology, biodiversity and evolution, population dynamics, sex and mutation, antibiotic resistance and production, drug and vaccine targets, as well as prion diseases and the biology of fungi and protozoa.

Journal Citation Format

Those examples are references to articles in scholarly journals and how they are supposed to appear in your bibliography.

Not all journals organize their published articles in volumes and issues, so these fields are optional. Some electronic journals do not provide a page range, but instead list an article identifier. In a case like this it's safe to use the article identifier instead of the page range.

A journal article with 1 author

A journal article with 2 authors

A journal article with 3 authors

A journal article with 5 or more authors

Books Citation Format

Here are examples of references for authored and edited books.

Web sites Citation Format

Sometimes references to web sites should appear directly in the text rather than in the bibliography.
