. To determine the validity and reliability of the Treatment Adherence Questionnaire for Patients with Hypertension (TAQPH), Spanish version, designed by Chunhua Ma et al.This study was carried out in the city of Ibagué (Colombia) and the test validation determined validity (face, content, and construct) and reliability. Face and content validity were conducted through expert judgment, using Fleiss' Kappa Coefficient statistical tests and modified Lawshe's content validity index. The construct validity and the reliability test had the participation of 220 people with diagnosis of primary hypertension. Reliability was calculated through Cronbach's alpha statistical test.In the face validity, the instrument reported a Fleiss' Kappa index was 0.68 in comprehension, 0.76 in clarity, and 0.64 in accuracy, interpreted as a substantial agreement. The content validity index was satisfactory with 0.91; el exploratory factor analysis reported six factors with a total variance explained of 54%. Cronbach's alpha for the total scale was 0.74.The Spanish version of the TAQPH is a valid and reliable scale to evaluate adherence to treatment in patients with primary hypertension.

Validity and Reliability of the Treatment Adherence Questionnaire for Patients with Hypertension

Mixed methods research represents a dynamic approach, that combines quantitative and qualitative perspectives in the same study to answer complex questions, beyond the reach of each method used separately. This type of research is increasingly used in health sciences and in social sciences, where it is possible to identify important contributions to knowledge and the practice, derived from the characteristic integration of this approach. Nevertheless, it important to reiterate the importance of recognizing their own perspectives, methods, rigor criteria, and challenges. This work presents general aspects of the epistemological perspective of mixed methods research, describes basic and advanced designs, forms and possible integration moments of each design, as well as the rigor criteria that guide these types of studies. Graphic elements are presented to facilitate recognizing the structure of each design. Furthermore, a visual tool is introduced denominated “anatomy of mixed methods research”, which seeks to guide researchers regarding each of the key elements in the design and development of this type of research.

Practical Guide to Achieve Rigor and Data Integration in Mixed Methods Research

Objective. To evaluate the effectiveness of a nursing intervention, against routine care, to improve knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) in malaria prevention in an Emberá Katío community from the department of Córdoba, Colombia. Methods. This was an intervention study with quasi-experimental design with control group, conducted in three phases: (I) design of the educational intervention, (II) content validation of the educational intervention through expert judgment, and (III) execution of a quasi-experimental study with two groups: experimental (n = 60) and control (n = 58). The intervention consisted in four modules taught in person, using educational strategies, like classes, guided discussions, workshops, and a booklet designed for the study. The control group received the routine care provided by the Secretariat of Health. The study used the instrument by the Pan-American Health Organization “Survey on knowledge, attitudes, and practices in addressing malaria in indigenous communities” to measure pre- and post-intervention scores. Results. The four modules of the educational intervention obtained Content Validity Indices between 0.83 and 0.90 that are considered adequate. The General Linear Models of repeated measures showed positive effect of the educational intervention on the KAP scores (p &lt; 0.001), with an effect size of 91% in knowledge, 49% in attitudes, 85% in practices, and 93% in the total score. Conclusion. The educational intervention proved effective to improve KAPs in malaria prevention in the Emberá Katío community from the department of Córdoba.

Effectiveness of a Nursing Intervention to Improve Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices in Malaria Prevention in an Emberá Katío Community in the Department of Córdoba

Objective. To summarize the most recent scientific evidence on the usefulness and implementation of simulation trainingprograms for health science students.&#x0D; Methods. A search and systematic review were conducted of the literature through the use of the PRISMA guidelines using the terms MESH Simulation AND healthcare AND Professional Training, including 42 articles.&#x0D; Results. The bibliometric analysis revealed that most of the studies were local in nature, that is, conducted in a single center, or in a few centers in the same region, from the English-speaking world, and using a mixed methodology with pre/post-test measurements. As for the educational aspects, most of the studies were conducted at universities or in the area of continuous education, used multidisciplinary teams as the student target, and used role-playing games as the simulation method. Also, these programs were especially successful in the acquisition of competencies, such as teamwork, communication, and trust.&#x0D; Conclusion. Clinical simulation is a teaching methodology implemented in the last twenty years, mainly in English-speaking countries; it utilizes techniques for its execution and assessment that have been validated in contrasted in many scientific studies, and lastly, it was also observed that it is useful for providing training on general competencies for multidisciplinary groups.

Clinical simulation in health education: a systematic review

Objective. To identify socio-academic and family functionality factors – communication, cohesion, and flexibility – as predictive stimuli of adaptive coping of nursing university students in the post-COVID-19 pandemic. Methods. A cross-sectional descriptive study with stratified random sampling, with participation by 416 Nursing students from a private university in Pereira (Colombia), who answered a self-completed sociodemographic characterization survey, the Olson et al., communication scale, FACES III scale to assess family cohesion and flexibility, and the Calixta Roy CAPS scale to assess coping and adaptation capacity. Binary logistic regression and Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit were performedto determine predictors of success, using SPSS v.26. Results. The profiles of the participants showed a higher proportion of women (78.4%), ages between 21 and 30 years (57.5%), young people who study and work (60.1%), and those who have an academic session on Friday and Saturday (67.5%). Nursing students perceive that their families communicate efficiently and satisfactorily (85.8%), have strong cohesion with a tendency towards attachment (73.6%) and flexibility, show a tendency towards chaos (70.7%) and have adaptive coping (48.5%). The success predictors for adaptive coping were female sex (p=0.007), academic session Friday and Saturday (p=0.042), occupation, study, and work (p=0.026), socioeconomic strata 4.5 and 6 (p=0.041), good or very good communication (p=0.001), balanced family cohesion (p =0.048), and balanced family flexibility (p=0.039). Conclusion. This study found that good family functionality and having adequate socioeconomic conditions were predictors of higher coping and adaptation capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic in the nursing students who participated in the study.
