Evaluating AI Literacy in Academic Libraries: A Survey Study with a Focus on U.S. Employees

Discussions about coping, resilience, and mental health accompanied the COVID-19 shutdowns and gradual return to academic and workspaces across the US through 2021. As physical and spiritual practices, yoga and meditation have been shown to help people through adversity and create resilience. Academic librarians were surveyed about yoga and meditation programs throughout the pandemic. The survey found that while yoga and meditation programs in academic libraries are on the rise, many cancelled their sessions because of the pandemic. Additionally, more can be done to make these sessions accessible.

Coping During Covid: Yoga and Meditation Accessibility in Academic Libraries During the Pandemic

of electronic information technologies and resources.The survey and analysis are the first such study including all academic disciplines and a broad range of faculty at several institutions joined in a consortia[ relationship.The survey's objectives were to determine the availability to faculty of equipment and network connections necessary for access to electronic information resources, to measure use and frequency of use of these resources, to report locations from which faculty access electronic information, and to elicit faculty perceptions of obstacles to the use of electronic technologies and library services which might stimulate use of such resources.The findings reveal that there are inequities in access to electronic technologies among the disciplines; that the most common obstacle to use of electronic information for faculty is lack of knowledge about resources; and that there is strong interest in initiating various library transactions via e-mail or a campuswide information system (CWIS) .The survey results pres~nt clear mandates related to information services, training, the • allocation of funds for networking, and access to electronic information resources for libraries.

Electronic Information Technologies and Resources: Use by University Faculty and Faculty Preferences for Related Library Services

There is a growing acceptance of open access funding models among academic publishers and a growing adoption of open access publishing agreements among academic libraries. In this context, libraries are taking on new roles and new processes to ensure the successful implementation of open access funding initiatives. This article will examine some of the key issues and considerations in the area of open access workflows, and discuss how one research-intensive library in the United States has approached these new functions.

Open Access Workflows for Academic Libraries

As most academic libraries closed in March 2020 to help slow the spread of COVID-19, practitioners started working from home for the first time. After observing impacts on their own work, the authors sought to study the broader effects of remote work on practitioners' professional and personal life by conducting a longitudinal study between July 2020 and June 2021. The authors identified successful and unsuccessful practices and, based on this data, developed recommendations for how employers can support their employees as whole persons to ensure more productive professional performance and healthier personal lives.

Rethinking How We Build Communities: The Future of Flexible Work

Curriculum mapping provides valuable opportunities for internal reflection and external advocacy in academic libraries. Librarians at a small liberal-arts college developed a curriculum mapping project designed to measure information literacy interventions with students, despite a lack of a standardized set of courses that all students take over the course of their tenure. The project incorporated both quantitative scoring and qualitative reflections by liaison librarians to determine the extent of information literacy-focused engagements with students and allowed librarians to target interventions in a way that was designed to reach as many students as possible during their undergraduate careers.

When There’s No Information Literacy Requirement: Curriculum Mapping to Drive Engagement

Studying ADA accessibility at library websites of top universities selected from the U.S. News and World Report , the authors used WAVE and AChecker to assess data in compliance with WCAG 2.0 standards. Almost 8 out of 10 public university academic libraries reported accessibility errors as one of the major findings. Low color contrast was becoming a more commonly occurring accessibility issue, making it difficult for people with vision impairments to perceive the color of the image. The outcomes of the study suggest that academic libraries around the world should continue improving their website accessibility.
